Richard Youngk from Annapolis, Maryland, can thank his little sister, Caitlin, for the photo in Reader's Album. Her note: "When Richard was 16, he fell in love with a beat-up '66 Mustang. To buy it, he asked our grandparents if he could borrow $1,500 with the promise of paying them back (which he did). He spent the next year fixing up the car and turned it into something of amazement. My brother loves this car more than anything but unfortunately he is going to have to sell it so he can pay off his college loans. I have never met someone who has dedicated more time and effort into their car as my brother."
Jeff Richard coaches a girl's soccer team in Mendon/Upton, Massachusetts, that just happens to be named the Green Mustang Warriors. Wonder why? Jeff has owned his Grabber Green '70 Boss 302 since 1981, although it was off the road for 21 years until a restoration was completed in late 2011. Mostly stock with mild mods like FPA headers and Cam Research cam, the 55,000-mile Boss was completed with bodywork and paint by Steve Collins and Terence Richard, transmission rebuild by Jim Cenedella, and drivetrain installation by Eddie Johnson from American Classic Cars.
Two years ago, Ken Camilleri from Patchogue, New York, was selling a '94 Mustang GT project car when he chanced upon this '04 Cobra convertible with the limited-edition Mystichrome color-changing paint. "It was truly the right time and the car was there for the taking," Ken says. With only 11,000 miles, Ken calls it an "occasional driver" with a few carefully chosen modifications, including chrome wheels, stylying bar, performance exhaust, and a dyno tune resulting in 402 rear-wheel horsepower. "I love detailing the car and so far have taken two First place prizes at local shows and a Third at the Mustang Club of America nationals in Rhode Island."
Best in Class
Tom McGinn from Telford, Pennsylvania, started showing his Vista Blue '09 Mustang GT in 2010 and now has a pair of "Best in Class—Late Model" awards that confirm the car's cleanliness and detail. Tom purchased the Mustang new and has been modifying it ever since, adding a Ford Racing cold-air intake with computer reflash, Flowmaster mufflers, TCI Streetfighter shifter, strut tower brace, Moroso aluminum coolant overflow tank, and numerous billet aluminum trim pieces. Future plans call for an airbrushed underhood mural depicting the car's nickname, "Blue Thunder."
