Super-sized, up-sized, biggie-sized; it seems that everything these days has an upgrade to a bigger portion. Our pony trail this month is no exception. Indeed, for the last five years the good folks with Mustangs Northwest have been our Kings of Cruise. They consistently bring the most Ponies to their trails-period, end of sentence. How do you argue with over 200 cars? You don't; you just enjoy the view. Yep, a plethora of Ford wildlife is always on display at the Bellevue-based event-and we haven't even talked about the show yet.
As far as the show goes, there's a little bit of everything in the Ford field. The Saturday Concours event is strong, though it's not huge; last year there were only 150 cars. Where you get the huge is on Sunday. Then things get wacky with 1,200-plus Mustangs, Falcons, Cougars, and Shelbys. To say that Henry Ford's family of fine cars is well represented would be an understatement.
If you've never been to this show and you live within driving range, we highly recommend it. It all starts full-tilt boogie on Thursday with open track at a local road race course and picks up steam from there, culminating in the Sunday Ford love fest. Come on out. The RouteThis is our 5th Anniversary Pony Trails adventure, and what an adventure it will be. Our theme this year is "Taking the Horses Back to Nature," and our record to beat is 231 cars-so come one, come all! We'll start out at the Evergreen Speedway at the Monroe Fairgrounds. For those who don't know where Evergreen Speedway or Monroe is, we'll have volunteers lead groups of cars to the speedway from Bellevue Community College. These groups will leave the college periodically from 7-8 a.m. Please arrive at the speedway no later than 9 a.m. for the drivers meeting. Make sure to arrive with a full tank of gas; we'll be covering a lot of ground (approximately 220 miles). From Monroe Speedway, we'll wander northwest through the Port Susan area to our first destination, Stanwood, for lunch. Once we've eaten, we'll head east, into the Northern Cascade Mountain Range to Newhalem, home of Seattle City Light's George Dam. This town has several attractions and activities, including short hikes, dam tour, museum, waterfalls, and much more. We'll then head back to Marysville for a final roundup and closing ceremony.
