Posing for another group shot at the finish is our vintage Mustang brigade. These three cars are proof that a well-prepped vintage Mustang is an ideal car for a ride down Highway 318. A restored car, a serious restomod, and even a magazine project car, all make for great fun at the NORC/SSCC events. Although not the greatest aerodynamically, we easily showed how vintage Mustangs can perform well in this environment. New or rebuilt suspensions, along with good tires, brakes, and healthy engines, are all important for making sure an older Mustang can handle consistent speeds in the 100-130-mph range. All three of these cars have T5 five-speed overdrive transmissions. An automatic or manual overdrive transmission (most likely an AOD or a T5, respectively) is the single most important upgrade you can do beyond the obvious safety issues. View Related Article
