Our '69 fastback has been in this magazine many times. We first used it in our July '03 issue when we installed a T5 transmission in place of the Top Loader four-speed. It's been the basis for dozens of technical how-to articles since then, and we finally got it into good-enough shape for a run down 318. While not as radical as Frank's '65, our car still has a number of upgrades that make a huge difference at high speeds, including new suspension pieces, Baer four-wheel disc brakes, and rack-and-pinion steering. For aerodynamic considerations, we also temporarily removed the nonfunctional hoodscoop for the trip down course. View Related Article
