For the past nine years, the World Ford Challenge has been the Super Bowl of Mustang drag racing, with all the top racers competing for cash awards and bragging rights. The event has found a home at Gateway International Raceway Park, on the Illinois side of St. Louis, a central location for racers and attendees alike.

Part of each World Ford Challenge (WFC) is the AutoShow Spectacular, located alongside the dragstrip. Held on May 18-21 and sponsored by Mustang Monthly and Mustang & Fords magazines, this year's show portion of WFC9 attracted some of the best Mustangs in the Midwest, from vintage restomods and concours musclecars to hot-rodded Fox-bodies and the latest in '05-'06 GTs. Our thanks to photographer Paul Rosner for covering the event and ably handling the "Editor's Choice" award, which went to Scott Christie and his 428-powered '68 fastback.

Christie's Blue Persuasion
While perusing the WFC9 show field for Mustang Monthly's "Editor's Choice" award, photographer Paul Rosner found himself mesmerized by the beautiful blue paint on Scott Christie's '67 GTA fastback. When closer inspection revealed the nicely detailed 428 Police Interceptor engine with added Shaker scoop, which wasn't available in '67, Paul knew he had found his pick.

It's a worthy selection. On top of the show-car detailing, Scott's fastback is a street-stormer, powered by a 428 PI with 352 High Performance heads, Mellings cam, and a vintage Edelbrock Streetmaster intake with a 750-cfm Holley. Hooker Competition headers hang below to funnel the exhaust to a pair of 2-1/2-inch Flowmaster mufflers. Scott modified the '67-vintage C6 automatic himself, going with a B&M shifter-improvement kit and TCI Breakaway converter with a 2,400-rpm stall speed. On the quarter-mile, the blue beast runs 12.60s at 112 mph.
