Mustang owners are as varied as the available colors on a '67 convertible. Some like shows; others prefer drag racing. Many drive vintage Mustangs; some want the comfort and convenience of the late-models. Most like mainstream convertibles and musclecars, but there are always the ones who enjoy something different from the crowd with a Mustang II or SVO. Heck, even show participants can't agree; some crave the competition of concours judging while others are satisfied with the votes of their peers.

It doesn't matter at the Mid-America Performance Ford and Shelby Meet. If you like Mustangs, there's something for you in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

For the 32nd straight year, Jim Wicks and his group of volunteers from the Oklahoma Region of the Shelby American Automobile Club produced a variety show for Mustang and Shelby owners during the June 1-4 weekend. On Thursday and Friday, the event shifted west to the Hallett Motor Racing Circuit for two days of open track on the hilly 1.8-mile road course. On Saturday, the event picked up and moved to the New Tulsa Raceway Park for Goodyear Eagle Day at the dragstrip. On Sunday, show cars, drag racers, and road racers gathered behind the Hilton for the event-ending car show. Intermingled among the main activities was a Thursday cruise to the Brookside Business District, a Friday night reception with manufacturer displays and seminars, a Saturday evening banquet with Ford's Bob Adams as keynote speaker, and hotel parking lot bench-racing sessions at almost any given moment. Some even participated in the hotel bar's karaoke, but the bench-racing was better entertainment.

Next year, the Mid-America Performance Ford and Shelby Meet celebrates its 33rd year on June 14-17, 2007. Keep an eye on the Web site at www.midamericafordmeet.com for updates.
