It was a great way for the NMRA to kick-off its 2009 season. In spite of gloomy economic forecasts and tumbling stock markets, plenty of Mustang and Ford owners shed their concerns for a weekend of racing and showing during the NMRA's Nitto Tire Spring Break Shootout on March 5-8.
As always, the season-opening event took place at Bradenton Motorsports Parks, just a hop, skip, and a jump down I-75 from the Mustang Monthly offices in Tampa. This year, the Mustang Club of West Central Florida served as the host club, so there were plenty of Mustangs, both vintage and late-model, in the show field. With over 300 cars registered, the show gathering set a record for the NMRA Florida event.

In a show dominated by late-model Mustangs, it was great to see Ray and Lola Baker's '64 1/2 Mustang in the NMRA's Bradenton show field. Based in Sarasota, the Baker's red hardtop is a regular at Mustang shows around Florida.

Larry Tumburino's original-owner '71 Mach 1 and Duke Clancy's '69 Mach 1 were among the many vintage Mustangs from the show's host club, the Mustang Club of West Central Florida.

Ford produced the '03-'04 Mach 1 with the non-supercharged 4.6L DOHC engine. However, that didn't stop Steve Marks from adding a ProCharger supercharger to his '04 Mach 1. It ties in nicely with the factory Shaker hoodscoop.

The NMRA always offers an Under Construction award at its events. At Bradenton, the award went to Earl Heady's primered '69 Mach 1. We're still wondering where he found those vintage side pipes.

It was hard to miss Richard Randolph's bright orange '07 Mustang GT with Steeda modifications. In addition to twin black stripes and 20-inch 5-spoke wheels, Richard has applied matching Grabber Orange to many of the engine and trunk components. His GT won the Best Modern Mustang award on Saturday.
