2009 Carlisle All-Ford Nationals

Ford's sideways '10 Mustang has been a hit at shows around the country. At Carlisle, this attendee was caught nosing around the undercarriage.

While the All-Ford Nationals incorporates a huge car show and manufacturers' area, many enthusiasts come to Carlisle specifically for the swap meet. These guys headed home with a pair of monster tailpipes for their homebuilt project.

Don Fezell is well-known for his collection of '681/2 Cobra Jet race cars, including Phil Bonner's "Daddy Warbucks" car. Now he's also adding Ford Racing's '09 FR500CJ Mustangs to his stable, this one with "Daddy Warbucks" lettering as well.

Longtime readers will remember Bill Herndon's classified ads from Mustang Monthly's classified section in the 1980s and 1990s. He's still in business as Bill Herndon's Pony Warehouse, where he specializes in the restoration of vintage Mustang steering wheels.

If you ever wanted a super-sweet, low-mileage first generation Mustang, then you missed out on this 40,000-mile hardtop in the Carlisle Cars for Sale area. The sign in the window explained, "Sold 7/27/64 to a nurse in Connecticut. When she passed away in the 1980s, she left the car and her home to a church. At that time, the car had 33,500 miles." As of Saturday afternoon at Carlisle, it was still unsold.

Mustang IIs are always well represented at Carlisle. Vaughan Kipe's '78 Ghia and Dale Love's '78 King Cobra were two of the best at this year's show.

It would be worthwhile to buy a yellow Mustang just to be able to hang out with the Yellow Mustang Registry group. In addition to their eye-popping lineup of 41 yellow Mustangs in the show field, their Caribbean-themed club tent was named the "Coolest Club Hangout" at the 2009 All-Ford Nationals. They were also partying into the night at our hotel, where the parking lot looked like a Chiquita display at the grocery store.

Thanks to signage in the window, we learned that Robert Larmouth's '68 GT hardtop had been part of our original Vintage Rides feature in the July 2004 issue. That's his then-girlfriend and now-wife, Jan, sitting on his '68 GT hardtop in March 1973. The current '68 GT is an identical replacement after Robert sold the first one many years ago.

Sam Auxier Jr. was in Building T with his former '69 Mustang drag car, now owned by Bob Leenstra. Many attendees recognized the red, white, and blue fastback thanks to the feature in June '09 Mustang Monthly, which Bob prominently displayed in front of the car.
