To celebrate the 45th anniversary...
To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Mustang, the crew at Carlisle made a valiant effort to line up one Mustang from every year of production, from 19641/2 to 2010. There were a few missing model years, no doubt due to some car owners not making the trip to Carlisle due to Friday's nasty weather.
Rainy Day Trails
In the nearly ten years of Pony Trails at CJ Pony Parts, we've had minor drizzles and annoying fog. But this year, we had rain. Not heavy, just constant. The rain fell from the time we arrived at the CJ Pony Parts showroom just outside Harrisburg to the end of the Trails near the Carlisle Fairgrounds. I don't recall ever being involved with a Pony Trails where it rained for the entire cruise.
Still, 50 to 60 brave and determined Pony Trails die-hards assembled at CJ Pony Parts on Friday morning. Instead of milling around the parking lot per usual, everyone crammed inside the dry showroom for coffee, doughnuts, and tours of the CJ facility by owners Creed Stammel and Jay Zeigler. This year, trailmasters Jeff Bliemeister and Jim Krupa planned a shorter cruise than usual-probably a good thing due to the weather- taking us through the hills north of Harrisburg for a 90-minute ride to Carlisle so participants could get an early start at the swap meet or show. The soggy Trail ended at Village Park, just north of Carlisle's Gate 5.
 It seems like late-model Mustangs...  It seems like late-model Mustangs are taking over the Mustang show fields these days. At the All-Ford Nationals, the '79-'10s had the '65-'78s outnumbered by about four to one. |  As always, Carlisle provided...  As always, Carlisle provided a car wash area next to the show field. We found Chris and Julie Beacock cleaning up their yellow '03 Cobra convertible after their wet drive down from Ontario, Canada. |  Carlisle's Building T Invitational...  Carlisle's Building T Invitational Display always includes some interesting Mustangs, but even Carlisle was surprised to get this one. Just two weeks before the All-Ford Nationals, Dr. John Mansell pulled his '641/2 Mustang out of a 31-year storage. The black convertible was the fourth production Mustang, VIN 100004, and was one of 12 Mustangs used for Ford's Magic Skyway ride at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Dr. Mansell has owned the car since 1965. Watch for this historic Mustang's story in next month's issue. |
