Mild to Wild
Over the past 16 years, Dan Downs' '68 Mustang hardtop has gone from stock with a 289 to Pro Street with mini-tubs and a blown 363 cubic-inch small-block that makes 844 horsepower at the rear wheels. Built from a Ford Racing Boss 302 block, the engine is equipped with a ProCharger supercharger, intercooler, and FAST fuel injection. To handle the power, chassis mods incorporate a Chris Alston rear suspension, 9-inch Art Morrison rearend with ladder bars, and an assortment of Total Control Products for the front, including rack-and-pinion steering. And Dan is not done. "With a few changes, I'm looking to get between 900 and 1000 hp."
Jim Doiron's '91 SSP Mustang notchback was one of three originally purchased and used by the Santa Clara, California, Sheriff's DA office. Unit number 91054 came with an automatic transmission and the rare Twilight Blue exterior paint. Unlike most SSP Mustangs, the DA's office didn't put a lot of miles on the car; it only shows 44,000 today. "There is a paper trail of documentation on the car and its mileage," says Doiron, who lives in Lee Summit, Missouri. "I show it in Mustang Club of America concours with the original police equipment."
For his 40th birthday, Jay Lewis got a '66 Mustang GT. "It was a gift from my wife," says Jay. "She made a promise that when I turned 40 I could get a Mustang. And boy did she deliver." The couple found the Mustang just one hour from their home in New Ipswich, New Hampshire, with only 33 miles since a full restoration. An A-code hardtop, the Mustang is equipped with a four-speed, power steering, console, Deluxe "Pony" interior, Rally-Pac, two-speed wipers, and white vinyl roof. Jay says he drives the Mustang about 2,000 miles a year. "It's way too nice to leave in the garage!"

It's no wonder MRT's Scott Hoag selected #2047 to represent his company—the Pennsylvania-based Boss is equipped with plenty of MRT parts, including H-pipe with cats, axle-back exhaust, rear window louvers, hood struts, shift knob, and front splitter. Other mods include H&R Super Sport lowering springs, C&L cold-air intake (with MRT black carbon-fiber look), and Barton Industries' short-throw shifter.
