There's something classic about a '65-'66 Mustang in white. Maybe it's the way the body lines reflect against a dark background. Or perhaps it goes all the way back to Ford's original Mustang advertising campaign, which often featured a white hardtop in a glitzy environment. Regardless, a vintage Mustang in white is a dazzling display of the Mustang's classic long-hood, short-deck styling.
Even more dazzling is a convertible in triple white-Wimbledon White exterior, white interior, and white top. That's the way Bill and Mary Schulz bought their '6411/42 Mustang from the first owner in 1997. Originally purchased in 1964 by a Fort Lee, New Jersey, school teacher, the car was stored in a warehouse for nearly 20 years, which helps explain its relatively low 56,000 miles and super-clean condition. Even with the low mileage, age and storage took its toll on the convertible, so Bill embarked on a full restoration, which was completed in the fall of 2003.
Obviously, white is everywhere on this convertible, especially the interior, where the standard '6411/42 door panels are totally white except for the chrome handles. Even the steering wheel is white, making for a cool grip as long as your hands are clean. Contrasting the starkness is a black carpet, dashpad, instrument bezel, glovebox door, and Rally Pac.
The drivetrain is classic as well: D-code (four-barrel) 289 with a four-speed. Other options include the '6411/42 wire wheel covers with spinners and power top, plus the over-the-counter engine dress-up kit, which adds the chrome open-element air cleaner and valve covers. Of course, as a '6411/42 model, the Mustang is equipped with the early production characteristics, like the generator charging system, short fender emblems, recessed hood bumper screws, and other components that were used prior to the start of the '65 model year.
Bill and Mary show their white-on-white-on-white convertible at Antique Automobile Club of America events, where they have earned awards. That should come as no surprise. After all, show-stopping triple-white is as classic as it gets.
