How-To Install the PerTronix Ignitor II

(above and next two photos) The Pertronix Ignitor and Ignitor II arrive with eyelet connectorsalready installed. However, they don't fit through the opening of someAutolite/Motorcraft distributors. Since they needed to be trimmed to fitanyway, we snipped off these ends and fed them through. Then, we seatedthe rubber grommet. New eyelets may be installed after the ignition-coillocation is established.

The Ignitor II is installed and retained with the screw provided in thekit. This screw is longer than the stock ignition-point screws becausethe Ignitor II mounting plate is thicker. Don't forget to install theground wire, or the engine will not start.

Next, install the shutter wheel for the magnetic pickup. It slips on thedistributor cam and shaft as shown.

The air gap between the shutter wheel and Ignitor II module is .030inch. Lock it down and check the gap again.

Make sure the leads don't...

Make sure the leads don't rub against any surfaces, including the groundstrap. Chaffing through, possibly creating a short circuit, can leaveyou stranded. Reinstall the distributor rotor and cap. The red lead goesto the positive post on the ignition coil, and the black lead goes tothe negative coil terminal.
