9 The alternator harness is next. Each Mustang engine calls fordifferent harness routing on the back of the alternator, so check yourFord shop manual. The most important thing to remember is solidconnections that are protected. Ascertain proper connections as wellbefore connecting the battery.

10 The engine gauge feed is next. We call this an engine gauge feed, butit also connects to the starter solenoid, which enables us to activatethe starter. When you turn the key to "Start," power flows through oneof these two wires to close the solenoid contacts, which channels powerdirectly from the battery to the starter. Power also flows to theignition coil during cranking via the solenoid. Three engine-gauge feedwires go to the coolant-temperature sender, oil-pressure sender, andignition coil.

13 The fuse box on '65-'66 Mustangs is located on the lefthand sideabove the kick panel. Dave takes extra care not to pinch any of thewires behind the fuse box. The fuse box's two hex-head sheetmetal screwscan penetrate wire insulation, making an ugly short circuit.
