The upper intake needs to be removed to access the valve covers. Begin by disconnecting the battery and removing the air-inlet tube that connects to the throttle body. You'll need to unplug the mass air meter, unbolt the mass air meter mounting bracket from the strut tower, and loosen the clamps at either end of the tube to free it from the throttle body and air-cleaner box.
