Getting Your Mustang Ready for Spring

Got a misfire you can't explain in your late-model fuel-injectedMustang? You've changed the spark plugs and wires, and it still misses?Check the fuel injectors. Sometimes they stick or don't work at all,which causes a dead cylinder.

We also ignore wiring and electrical components. Check all wiring forchafing and rotted insulation. A grounded-out wire, caused by badinsulation, can burn your Mustang to the ground.

Differential fluid should be changed every time you service thetransmission. Don't forget the friction modifier for Limited Slip andTraction-Lok differentials.

While you're underneath, check the driveshaft, universal joints, andyokes for abnormal wear and tear. Look for evidence of driveshaftcontact and damage

We also ignore fuel tanks, but they can stop you cold. During thewinter, keep a diet of fuel restorer on hand. Fuel doesn't go bad, butits additives do. Don't be afraid to drive your Mustang in the winter tokeep the fuel turned over. Drive it every once in a while on a nice dayrather than leave it under lock and key all winter.

Windows, rollers, and regulators need love too. If the windows yieldresistance, pop the door and trim panels. Then lubricate the rollers,gears, and tracks with white lithium grease. Do the same for your doorlatches and locks. Door locks love WD-40 and white grease, which keepthem flexible and free.

Show your Mustang affection with a wash, wax, and detail job. In theaircraft maintenance business, it's called "corrosion control" because aclean surface is less likely to corrode. Catch all the places you don'tsee as well.
