How-To Install Antisway Bars On 2005-2006 Ford Mustangs
13.
Tighten the bolts, washers, and locknuts at the bottom of the bracket...
14.
... and at the top.
15.
Next, install the bar hanger brackets in the car's existing holes using the supplied hardware. On V-6 cars, these mounting provisions exist even though these cars don't come factory equipped with a rear bar. However, a GT-type suspension-package option on '06 V-6 Mustangs will likely mean that some will have a factory-equipped rear bar.
16.
With all the attaching hardware in place, the bar is then raised into position and attached to the axle brackets.
17.
While the bar is being held in position, install the attachment hardware on the axle brackets...
18.
... and tighten securely as shown. The Hellwig instructions include all torque specs for the various-sized nuts and bolts for both front and rear bars. Note that we also used the outer holes on the ends of the bar. Should you desire more control from the bar, you can switch to the inner holes-the same way as with the front bar.
19.
With the bushings greased and installed on the bar the same way as with the front bar, connect the rear bar, bushings, and U-plate to the hanger bracket on each side.
20.
This shows how the bolts for the axle bracket should be secured to the car's shock-mount bracket. Be sure the top bolt and washer are in place over the bracket above the shock, and the washer and bolt don't slip through the enlarged hole in the shock-mount bracket. Note also the thick washer between the bushing in the axle bracket and the antisway bar. If needed, install these to properly align the bar in relation to the axle brackets.
21.
Complete the installation by securely tightening the bolts, locknuts, and washers on the tops of the hanger brackets. These mounting provisions for the hanger brackets are in place on all S197 Mustangs, regardless of whether they're equipped with a rear bar.
