Although people tend to have mixed feelings about a global economy, it has brought a lot of exciting products from around the world. A case in point is the Mini-Tach from Retrogauge of Australia. Australians love classic Mustangs, thus inspiring a wealth of terrific products from Down Under.

Retrogauge's '67-'68 Mustang Mini-Tach's typeface and style make it look factory original. Made with extraordinary quality, it requires no cutting or modification to install. The only thing to be done is remove the crosshair blank or clock and drop it in. After that, plug it into 12 volts of ignition-switched power and a signal from the ignition coil.

Available in 0-6,000 and 0-8,000 rpm versions, the Mini-Tach is available for a checkbook-grabbing $79, plus shipping from West Australia.

 Ford Mini Tach Detach Panel
1 After disconnecting the battery, detach the instrument panel by removing the five screws around the perimeter. Gently pull the panel toward you so you can gain access and disconnect the speedometer cable and plugs. Then remove the cluster.

2 Remove the plastic crosshair blank or clock as shown.

If there's a clock, the control knob must be removed first with a small screwdriver.

3 Take extra care of your Mustang's clock, as they are scarce and valuable. Secure the control knob to the clock's shaft and store the assembly in a safe, dry environment-ideally inside a plastic bag.
 Ford Mini Tach Install
4 The Mini-Tach from Retrogauge installs easily using the same three sheetmetal screws Ford used for the blank and clock. Three leads are needed: ignition signal, 12 volts of switched power, and ground.
 Ford Mini Tach Color Leads
5 Color-code your tachometer leads: blue for ignition signal, red or white for 12 volts of switched power from the fuse box, and black for ground to body/chassis. Ford provides switched female power plugs in your Mustang's factory wiring harness. Don't cut or splice your main wiring harness.
