Likely the greatest bargain is the '87-'93 Mustang GT or 5.0. You can get into one for chump change because there are so many available on the used-car market. It's another example of the law of supply and demand. If you're sprucing up a Fox-body Mustang, there are all kinds of modifications that will make it stand out. White-face instruments are one way to get there-and for not much money, either. We'll show you how.

How To Install White-Face Gauges |
Remove the steering-column covers at the dashboard. |
The instrument panel detaches via several sheetmetal screws around its perimeter. |

Use a 5/16-inch socket. |
The steering column cover is installed in two halves. Remove the two screws, one on each side, and separate the cover for removal. |
Headlight and hazard-warning flasher switches click into the instrument panel. All you have to do is depress the retainer clips, remove the switches, and disconnect, as shown. |

Once all the screws and switches are out, this is how the instrument bezel is removed. This simple modular construction made vehicle assembly easier. |
Once the bezel is removed, the instrument panel comes out after removing the screws around its perimeter. |
Multiplex connections similar to this one date back to 1969 when they were first used in the Mustang. This simple plug connects everything-power, lights, and all instruments-to the flexible printed circuit. Unplug and gently push to the side. |

Beginning in 1969, the Mustang speedometer cable became a clip-on affair at the speedo. Click off, then click back on when it's time for installation. While you're at it, lubricate the speedometer cable and head. |
Place the instrument panel on your workbench for disassembly and access to the gauge faces. The screws around the perimeter retain the lens and diffuser. |
The lens and diffuser remove like this. Take extra care not to scratch the lens. |
