How To Install Performance Mufflers

Ford stuck the mufflers at the end of each tailpipe with pipe clamps that are easy to remove and install. Each muffler has two rubber-insulated hangers.

Removal of the muffler hanger is done mostly by feel. You'll need a metric 14mm socket for this one. Take note of how these hangers are installed. You can get them backward and wonder why the muffler hangs too low.

Our '08 Shelby GT500 already has an aftermarket muffler package, but the owner complained of cabin resonance. Corsa has the solution.

Wrestle the muffler loose as shown. The toughest part, if it can be called tough at all, is removal from the pipe.

This is the lefthand muffler hanger configuration. We're showing this in order to make installation easier. It's easy to reinstall these hangers backward, which yields baffling fit when hanging the muffler.

Insulators slip onto the muffler like this. If the muffler hangs too low, it's backward. Ask us how we know.

Corsa includes this packet of molybdenum high-temperature grease to use at your pipe joint for easier fit and sealing.

Fit the Corsa muffler in place and install the pipe clamp. Do not tighten yet.

Reinstall the hangers/insulators using a 14mm socket, then tighten the pipe clamp.

The righthand side is virtually a mirror image of the left. Remove the pipe clamp and insulated hangers.

Do you see what's wrong with this picture on the righthand side? The aft hanger is upside down. Both insulators should be up, not down.

Insulator/hangers are installed on the muffler next.

The righthand muffler is installed as shown using a 14mm socket. This is best done by feel because the hangers are hard to see.

Reinstall the pipe clamp and give it a good twist. Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
