The Bullitt Mustang is a Go!
We received word just before our Pony Tales deadline that the Bullitt Mustang is indeed a go and was launched at the Detroit Auto Show. Available in Dark Highland Green, True Blue, and Black (we're betting the Green sells the most), the Bullitt Mustang will be a package akin to the '99 35th Anniversary Mustang. The package must be ordered on an '01 Mustang GT and is not available on a V-6 or a convertible. The package will run an additional $3,695 beyond the cost of the GT. Plans call for a limited run of 5,000 units. To order a Bullitt GT, see your nearest dealer and order P42 (for the GT) and package 135A (for the Bullitt items). If you want your Bullitt in Dark Highland Green, ask for color PY. At press time we didn't have order codes for True Blue or Black.
Features of the new Bullitt Mustang include '68-style, pleated-leather front bucket seats with retro-style instrumentation. A billet shift knob and brushed aluminum shift bezel and door scuff plates add to the effect as well. Revalved Tokico shocks and a lowered ride height, along with unique stabilizer bars and framerail connectors increase handling. An aluminum intake with dual-bore throttle body and performance mufflers make "at least" an additional 10 hp and lots more torque than a base GT-claims the press kit-while giving the car an authoritative note from the polished rolled-lip tailpipes. Yes, you just read the words rolled lip; take a look at the pictures. With limited room here in Pony Tales, we've decided to post these and many more great detail shots of the new Bullitt Mustang on our Web site www.mustangmonthly.com. You will also find commentary on the Bullitt Mustang from Mustang Monthly's editorial staff as well as from Bullitt enthusiasts and experts.
Bullitt, 1:25 Scale-Style
For those of you who can't afford the new Bullitt Mustang, you can purchase the new "old" Bullitt Mustang in 1:25 scale from Revell. Released in late 2000, we found our Bullitt Mustang at a local Wal-Mart. The Bullitt Mustang should be available just about anywhere. The metal body model comes prepainted in Highland Green and even has the correct plates! For those willing to have real fun, you can also pick up the '68 Charger that's available and reenact the famous chase scene yourself. Just don't call us when you set your garage on fire, replicating the gas station explosion (that includes you, Houlahan-Ed.) that culminates the chase scene.
