There's no doubt about it – today's Mustang is the best Mustang ever. With a 305hp V6, 412hp GT (420hp for '13!), 444hp Boss 302, and 550hp Shelby G.T. 500 (650hp for '13!), it's the best performance Mustang line-up since 1969. But thanks to a great Mustang to start with, the performance aftermarket keeps coming up with great products to make the Mustang even better. Here's a look at some of the best performance products for the '11-'13 Mustang. Many of them fit the '05-'10 models as well.
Intake swaps have been popular ever since the invention of the gasoline engine. Ford Racing provides owners of '11-'13 Mustang GTs with a factory swap, offering the short-runner intake from the Boss 302 for optimum flow at higher rpms. Identical to the intake found on the '12-'13 Boss 302, the intake is made from a lightweight composite material and is a direct swap for the original 5.0L intake. Calibration is required, and a Boss 302 Intake Manifold Install Kit, part number M-9444-M50B, is recommended. The Boss 302 intake can be purchased wherever Ford Racing parts are sold.
Corsa Performance Exhausts has introduced new bolt-on exhaust systems for the '11-'12 Mustang GT and V-6, Shelby G.T. 500, and Boss 302. The axle-back exhaust features a dual rear-exit design along with Corsa's patented Reflective Sound Cancellation technology for a muscular exhaust note with no interior resonance. Two sound levels are offered: the Sport system is robust on the throttle while the Xtreme system produces a louder, more aggressive note. Corsa claims an improvement of seven horsepower for the Mustang GT and Boss. Installation hardware and instructions are included.
Designed and manufactured for MRT's SEMA Award-winning '11 Mustang TKO, the MRT MaxFlow H-pipe for '11-'13 V6 Mustangs minimizes restriction and power losses by maximizing the flow of exhaust gases for increased power and performance coupled with a deep performance sound. During the design process, the MRT engineering team optimized the tube diameter to 2 ½ inches for 25 percent more flow. Mandrel bending technology ensures smooth bends and precise fit from the 304 stainless steel. MRT's catalytic converters are built to last with choice packing designed to endure serious performance driving for many years. The system is a direct fit factory replacement with no other modifications required, although custom tuning (available from MRT) will optimize the performance gain.
Coyote Throttle Body
BBK's 85mm Power-Plus throttle body for the Coyote 5.0L in '11-'12 Mustang GTs is an easy way to increase throttle response and add 8-12 rear-wheel horsepower. Each BBK unit starts life as a new CNC-machined 356 aluminum casting which is then fitted with high-quality components, including a new OEM drive motor and electronics, to make it a true bolt-on and plug-in upgrade. The throttle body works with both stock and aftermarket tunes.
Shelby Performance Parts' 6-speed shifter for '11-'13 V6 and GT Mustangs reduces throw by 40 percent without sacrificing the neutral left to right movement. Offered as part number S11M-7210-B, the shifter is made with a dual pivot trunnion for fast, smooth shifts, especially the Second to Third shift during spirited driving. A new shifter bracket is provided to replace to factory's flimsy bracket. The shifter works with the factory reverse lock-out and reverse camera.
5.0L Coil Covers
Owners of '11-'13 Mustang GTs can now dress up their 5.0L Coyote engines with coil covers from Ford Racing. Available in blue (same as Boss 302, M-6P067-M50B), black (M-6067-50BK), or chrome (M-6067-50C), the covers are a direct replacement for the factory covers. The black and chrome covers are made from die-cast aluminum with etched Ford Racing logo, while the blue covers are plastic with a "Powered by Ford" logo.
