26 To finish off our quarters,... 26 To finish off our quarters, new window crank hardware and black pinch on windlass are installed. If you're converting to Deluxe interior, don't forget the chrome beauty cap on the corner of the quarter-trim panels. Later, we slid the chrome caps into place and carefully drilled the single mounting hole for the trim screw. 27 After finishing our quarter... 27 After finishing our quarter windows, the door glass can now be adjusted to mate with the quarter glass correctly. With our glass adjustments finalized, we can install our new Deluxe door panels from Virginia Classic Mustang. The stainless trim for the door panel is a separate item and must be installed first. Bend the mounting tabs out straight, then push the inner trim into the mounting holes in the panel. 28 Pull the tabs through... 28 Pull the tabs through with a pair of pliers for a snug fit of the trim to the door panel, then bend the tabs down to retain the trim. The outer trim is held with some small tapping screws (not supplied, so they expect you to reuse your originals). 29 Here's our completed door... 29 Here's our completed door panel with the inner and outer stainless trim in place. These door panels are made from the same high-quality materials as the dashpad we installed, with all of the correct holes prepunched for a perfect fit. 30 After installing our new... 30 After installing our new water shields, the Deluxe door panels are installed with new retaining clips. If you're converting your interior to Deluxe as we are, you'll need to order the correct color door panel "pull cups" and the retaining bracket that sits beneath it, so you can secure the panel with the two flat-head screws that sit inside the pull cup. 31 New window cranks and... 31 New window cranks and inside door handles come next. Don't forget the plastic washers that seat behind them to protect your new door panels. 32 The beltline felt strips... 32 The beltline felt strips can be installed any time after the glass has been adjusted. Sometimes you have to remove the large rubber glass stop at the bottom of the door, but we were able to carefully slide the felts between the glass and the door shell and push them into place. 33 New door-end seals from... 33 New door-end seals from our collection of CJ Pony Parts rubber items fit perfectly to our reproduction door shells. On older doors, these screw holes can sometimes be stripped. A quick fix is to install slightly larger screws or you can weld the holes closed and redrill them (before painting, of course). 34 The last touch to our... 34 The last touch to our side glass buildup and door assembly is to glue on our new door weatherstripping. Start at the vent-window frame and glue a few inches at a time. Don't forget the plastic retainers on the ends. They come with the kit, or you can buy them separately from CJ's. Next month: seats and carpet.
