Super Job with the Super CrewWhen we decided to bring Editor Ford's '72 Mach 1 (The Lazarus Project) and our new project, Tech Editor Mark Houlahan's '66 hardtop, to the MCA Grand National in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, last year, we had a minor problem. One company trailer and one '82 F-150 knocking on death's door (Editor Ford's "Ol' Blue") was not going to get two cars to this show. The trailer problem was made easy with a call to the local U-Haul, netting us a brand-new trailer. The tow vehicles, on the other hand, were another problem. We occasionally receive press vehicles from Ford, but acquiring two trucks with tow packages at the same time would be interesting.
As luck would have it, our good friend (and fellow Mustang owner of a '65 fastback) Sergio Gutierrez of Guti Automotive Group, who handles Ford's PR vehicles for the Southeast, had a 2000 F-150 Lightning and a 2001 F-150 Super Crew available for us. Sergio delivered both vehicles to us in time for transporting the Mustangs, and we received quite a few comments on the F-150s as well during the trip. Hats off to Sergio, who came through in a pinch for the magazine.
That Had to Hurt!While at the All-Ford Carlisle event last year, we ran into Peter Tostaine of Ozone Park, New York, and his salute to his Grabber Green Metallic '71 Mach on his right arm. The tattoo highlights such things as the car body, the steering wheel, the ignition key, the coiled snake, and of all things, the actual VIN of his car! This is no temporary tattoo either. This sucker is going to be on forever (short of a doctor's laser). The Mach 1 is undergoing a full restoration as we speak, thus the reason for Peter's trip to Carlisle for hard-to-find '71 parts. Let's hope that Peter doesn't decide to buy too many more Mustangs, as he's quickly running out of skin!
Dept. of CorrectionsOct. 2000's Late-Model Corral letter titled "V-6 History Lesson" incorrectly stated that the 2.9 German V-6 was used in the Mustang II. In fact, it was the German 2.8L V-6 that was used in the Mustang II. We're sorry for any confusion this may have caused Mustang II owners.

VIN INFO: Ford Customer Service numberTo request a "History 999" report for your American-made Mustang, call the American Ford Customer Assistance line at (800) 392-3673. If your Mustang was made in Canada, you will need to call the Canadian Customer Service line at (800) 565-3673 and request a Broadcast Sheet. According to Ford PR sources, information is available for only '67-'88 models for right now. You will need to provide them with only your car's VIN. They will fax or mail you a complete list of options for the car.
