It's the last thing you'd expect to see on the tropical island of Aruba. The bright yellow Urataka Center, a former rum shop turned into a bar and grill on the small Caribbean island, fits right in with the brightly painted homes in the area. Once inside, you're surprised to find the walls decorated with Mustangs, from pictures and posters to a collection of die-cast Mustang models. The owner, Doque Croeze, explains that he's not only a long-time Mustang fan, he's also the president and cofounder of the Mustang Club of Aruba.

Guillermo (Willie) Rivas picked up his '65 Mustang hardtop back in 2002 in rough but driveable condition. Originally powered by a 289 with a two-barrel carb and single exhaust and backed by a C4 trans, the engine's oil consumption was a problem Willie wanted to remedy. He rebuilt the engine, adding an Edelbrock intake, MSD distributor, Flowmaster-based dual-exhaust system, and a Demon four-barrel carb, then topped it off with a Ford Racing Performance Parts engine dress-up kit. A new front suspension found its way under the car about the same time.

Our first YO Club winner for 2006 is Brian Amick of Oviedo, Florida. At just 19 years old, Brian has already owned this sweet-looking '66 hardtop for over four years. Powered by Ford's venerable 289 small-block and painted in Vintage Burgundy, Brian uses his car for daily transportation and the occasional open-track event with his local SVT Owner's Association. Young Owner Ryan Bruce of Bridgewater, New Jersey, owns this nice-looking '69 Mustang (formerly a Mach 1) finished in the popular Acapulco Blue topcoat and powered by a 302 four-barrel. Ryan has owned the SportsRoof for 11/2 years, mainly using it as his summer daily-driver after purchasing it from an uncle who had begun a restoration but then lost interest. When Ryan got the car, it required quite a bit of work. Originally powered by a 351W and FMX tranny, the Mach 1 had seen better days. Ryan replaced the engine with a late-model 302 and bolted a C-6 behind it for driving duties. Completing most of the bodywork on his own after school and on weekends provided him a sense of accomplishment and appreciation for cars. Future plans call for installing a 351C and a T5 five-speed swap, along with a full restoration back to Mach 1 status.

Taylor Sturdivant of Pflugerville, Texas, is our YO Club winner this month, and he's right proud of his 351 Cleveland-powered '71 Mustang Grande. Having owned it just four months as of this writing, he's already planning on some upgrades, including headers, dual exhaust, and a four-barrel carb, as well as freshening the worn interior. While not driven every day, Taylor does drive it on weekends and to cruise nights. He recently attended his junior prom in the Grande. The '71 was restored eight years ago by a previous owner, who bought it from a girl who drove it to college in nearby Plano, Texas. After driving the family's Ranger farm truck for a while (which he actually used to pass his driver's license exam), Taylor's dad purchased the '71 as a father-and-son project. We think things are progressing nicely. Congratulations, Taylor!

This months YO Club winner is Matt Hilburn of West Plains, Missouri. He's the proud owner of a Grabber Blue '70 Mach 1 and rightfully so. With that killer Grabber paint, a 351 Cleveland under the hood, and, well, those pants, how can he go wrong! Matt tells us that his Mach came from Kenner, Louisiana, just a few miles from New Orleans, about a year ago. Found through eBay, Matt and his dad were a little hesitant to purchase a car so close to the Katrina flood area. But the owner sent Matt and his dad plenty of pictures, so they hooked up the truck and trailer and headed south. They were surprised to find the owner's house on a hill, undamaged because it was high enough to prevent water intrusion. A deal was struck, and the Mach was on the Hilburn's trailer headed back to Missouri. Matt drives the Mach two or three times a week. It has 69,000 miles on the original engine, along with power steering, power disc brakes, and ice-cold A/C. He even scored the original window sticker and manual.
