How To Install Rear Disc Brakes: From Drums to Discs

The restudded axle shaft is installed as shown. This is a good timeto install new axle seals and bearings. Lubricate the axle seal withwheel-bearing grease or axle lube.

(above and right) Next, install the two halves of the brake mounting bracket. Make sureyou fit them in the correct spot over the axle bearing.
4.
Mount the dust shield next, anchoring it to the brake mountingbracket. Both dust shields should be pointed toward the front of thevehicle.
5.
(above and right) Both brake caliper mounting brackets are positioned where the calipersits at 10 o'clock (right side) or two o'clock (left side). Spacers areinstalled first, followed by the brackets.
6.
Install the parking-brake-cable bracket as shown, angled toward thefront of the vehicle.
7.
Before installation, clean both brake rotors with solvent to removeany preservative. It is a good idea to use brake-cleaning solventbecause it evaporates quickly.
