At first glance, Ford light-duty six heads all look the same. This is a'60 144ci cylinder-head casting--a C0OE. Casting numbers and dates areimportant for identification. The earlier heads have smaller valves andchambers. Valve and chamber size increased with increasing displacement.

(above & below) One performance handicap is the Siamese center exhaust port forcylinders 3 and 4. Jack Clifford's Performance Products has a quick,weld-in answer called an exhaust port divider, which stops theturbulence between the two ports to improve flow. Weld it in, then dosome port-grinding work for even smoother flow.

(above & below) Long ago, you could buy an Offenhauser three-one-barrel setup for your144/170/200ci six. It consisted of a bolt-on, finned-aluminum manifoldsetup designed to accommodate three Holley or Autolite one-barrelcarburetors. You had to bore two openings into the integral ironmanifold for the two additional carburetors. Then, the Offenhauseraluminum manifold bolted onto the iron manifold.

When you're shopping cylinder heads, always consider piston deck heightand head-gasket thickness with the head torqued. The thinner your headgasket, the greater the compression because of the reduced chamber size.A thicker head gasket increases chamber volume, which reducescompression.
