In 1968, Ford began offering the Firestone Wide-Oval and Goodyear Polyglas bias-belted tires on performance models. As time passed, these tires became options on more Mustang models. The super-wide 60-series tires were reserved for Boss models. This is the reproduction Goodyear Polyglas F70x14 available from Coker Tire.

Mump 051100 Tire 06 Z
Here's the Toyo 800 Ultra radial tire with white sidewalls. We found this one on a '73 Mustang Grande. It's properly sized at P205/78R14, and is virtually identical in size to the original E78x14 bias-belted tires. It also out-handles the factory originals, and offers comfort, reliability, and safety. The owner of this Mustang opted for the proper sidewall width as well.

Firestone makes a number of white-sidewall radial tires that offer longevity, handling, and the correct-width whitewall for your classic Mustang driver. This is the Firestone Supreme Si white-sidewall tire in a P205/70R14. It has a slightly wider track and good looks that will help make your Mustang distinctive.

Generic tire brands, such as Kelly and Dayton, can be had for less money, yet they have the same quality as big-name brands such as Goodyear and Firestone because many of these brands are manufactured in the same plants. This is a generic brand called Durasteel in P195/78R14 on a '66 Mustang.

Goodyear's Integrity is a narrow-band whitewall radial tire that works well on a classic Mustang. For bread-and-butter Mustang models, ask the dealer for a P195 or P205.

Mump 051100 Tire 14 Z
Mach 1s and Bosses were originally fitted with Firestone Wide-Ovals and Goodyear Polyglas GT bias-belted tires. The most authentic-looking wide-track radial tire is the BFGoodrich Radial T/A. Its raised white letters are a perfect size. What's more, the tread pattern channels water effectively and holds the road nicely. You can get these in 70- and 60-series sizes. For a Mach 1, we suggest a 70-series Radial T/A. For a Boss 302, 429, or 351, opt for a 60-series Radial T/A for an authentic look, superb handling and ride, and exceptional wear.

Mump 051100 Tire 15 Z
When shopping for raised white-letter tires to replace original Wide-Oval or Polyglas bias-belted tires, watch the letter sizing if you want to keep a restoration tasteful. We don't like huge, raised, white-letter billboard tires on otherwise terrific cars. Keep letter size modest.

This is the new Goodyear Eagle GT II, which is similar to the Eagle ST that has been so popular for vintage musclecars. Letter sizing is tasteful. Rubber compound and tread pattern speak of great handling and long life.
