Backing up at night just got brighter and safer for owners of '65-'68 Mustangs. Mustang Project's new LED lamps install in place of the original incandescent bulbs to provide much brighter illumination at the rear of your Mustang at night.
Sold as part number MP-1142-RFB, the Mustang Project kit includes a pair of LED discs, new lenses and gasket, and screws with the needed spacers.

The Mustang Project LED BackUp Light kit for '65-'68 Mustangs comes with two LED discs, new lens and gaskets, and screws with spacers. There are nearly 100 LEDs packed onto the disc to provide much brighter lighting than original-style incandescent bulbs.
Installation is similar to a regular bulb replacement, with just a couple of extra steps and precautions. Merv Rego at Classic Creations of Central Florida performed the swap in only a few minutes with nothing more than a Phillips-head screwdriver and a pair of needle-nose pliers.

After removing a pair of Phillips-head screws, the existing lens can be removed to access the original-style bulb. Carefully push in on the bulb, and twist to the left to pop it out of the socket. If removal is difficult, protect your fingers with a shop rag in case the bulb breaks.

Inserting the LED base into...

Inserting the LED base into the socket can be tricky, especially if you have large hands. Merv utilized a pair of needle-nose pliers to push the base into the socket, then twist to the right to lock into place. At this point, test the LED lamp's polarity by shifting into Reverse with the ignition on. If the LED doesn't light up, remove the base, turn it 180 degrees, and reinstall.

Slip the supplied gasket over...

Slip the supplied gasket over the LED disc and place it into the backup light housing. The gasket is critical to the operation of the LED backup lights. Without it, the LED lamp will short to the housing.

After carefully coiling the base wires into the housing, secure the LED disc with the new lens and a pair of screws with spacers. Make sure the spacers pass through the holes in the LED disc to avoid crushing the backing material.

Tighten the screws, making sure not to crack the plastic lens by securing too tightly.

Installed, the LEDs are barely visible behind the factory lens by day. At night, however, they really light your way when backing up.
