Mo' Nats MustangI enjoy your magazine very much. I recently purchased a Polar White '85 GT with Ford Motorsport decals on both front fenders, which say 1985 FORD NATIONALS, Maple Grove, Reading, PA. The car is bone-stock and rust-free. The VIN is 1FABP28M3FF230800. What is the significance, if any, of these decals? Any information would be greatly appreciated.Rick SullivanGoffstown, NH
Every year during the Ford Motorsport Nationals there is a "dealer drive away," in which the local dealers pick up a specially ordered vehicle from Ford at the Motorsport Nats. Every year there is something different. One year it could be a combination of 100 red Lighting pickups and 100 white Escort GTs, and another year it could be all blue Probe GTs. In 1985 one of the two dealer cars that were on display before being picked up by their dealers was the '85 Mustang GT in Polar White. There were 139 of these GTs at the Motorsport Nats that year, according to an article in the Aug. '85 issue of Super Ford magazine; all were identically equipped and lettered like yours.
While the car is quite interesting and we're glad to see it survived intact-including its graphics-the value of the car is probably not much more than without the graphics (remember, there were more than 139 Polar White GTs made in 1985). Good luck with your new purchase.
