Boss Bonanza II just purchased a '70 Boss 429 Mustang. The car is Grabber Blue with white interior. The car is very original with only 32,000 original miles. This Boss was owned by the same family until I purchased it last May. The paint is original but very thin and full of paint chips. The rear window moldings on this car are black instead of chrome. Is this correct?
I have looked at several other Boss 429s since I purchased mine, and they all have chrome rear window moldings. I also need a KK sticker for the door. It appears as though someone wiped on the original with some solvent that smeared the numbers. Does someone reproduce the KK stickers? Your input is appreciated.Johnny IrelandAddress withheld
Most '70 Boss 429 Mustangs had the stainless steel rear window moldings. Some '70 Boss 429s ended up with the '70 Boss 302 black rear window moldings. The black painted moldings were not stainless steel and often rusted on the backside, where they were bare, unprotected metal. If you need to replace any of your black moldings, you can use the stainless moldings as replacements. Before you paint them, be sure to sand or glass-bead them; otherwise, the paint will not adhere properly.
The correct paint is the textured low-gloss black. The OEM Ditzler DDL-9381 low-gloss black is now obsolete, so you must be creative to dry-spray nontextured low-gloss black for the textured appearance.

Boss Bonanza III have a '69 Boss 302 Mustang that is in the process of a total restoration. The car is very complete and almost rust-free. I'm in need of a set of argent Magnum 500 wheels. What is unique about these wheels? Are they the same as regular '69-'70 Magnums with argent instead of black paint between the spokes? I would like to get the correct wheels, since the car is very original. This Boss had a set of Cragar SS Mags when I found it.Sean KentSt. Paul
The correct '69 Boss 302 Magnum is Ford PN C9ZZ-1007-E. The '69 argent Magnum is the same wheel as the C9ZZ-1007-D '69-'70 optional Boss 302 chrome Magnum, except for the finish.
The argent Magnum used the same band (rim) as the chrome Magnum. The center of both the argent and chrome Magnum are also the same, except for the finish. The center on the argent Magnum was not chrome-plated. Instead, it was painted black on both sides, and the entire front face of the center was painted argent.
The optional chrome Magnums had chrome spokes with blackout between the spokes.
So it's possible to take a '69-'70 optional chrome Magnum and finish it to look like the argent Magnum. But it's impossible to make the argent Magnum look like the optional chrome Magnum, because the spokes on the center were never chrome-plated.
Motor Wheel Company in Lansing, Michigan, was the original manufacturer of the Magnum 500 wheel. The painted center was less expensive to manufacture than the chrome center.
In 1970 only the C9ZZ-1007-D chrome Magnums were used as standard equipment.
Boss Bonanza IIII own a '69 and a '70 Boss 302 Mustang. I recently purchased a nice used '69 rev limiter at the Columbus swap meet. My '70 rev limiter has a black stamp on the front cover that says Engine Governor 6150rpm. The '69 rev limiter does not have the black stamp. What should the information on the '69 rev limiter read? Also, what does the number 6940 on the '70 rev limiter mean? Also do you have a sample stamp of the information pertinent to both the '69 and '70 rev limiters?Ben SamplesPhoenix
The '69 Boss 302 engine governor assembly (Ford PN C9ZZ-12450) did not have the engineering number stamped on the front cover like that of the '70 governor. The '69 cover was blank. The photo above shows a sample of the '70 Boss 302 stamp found on the cover of the governor assembly.
